Karma is a very sophisticated concept in Buddhism and is not as simple as the term Cause and Effect. But in general, it means the result of action. You can't change the effect, but you are able to dilute the effect, but doing repentance regularly and wholeheartedly.Originally posted by Taiwanpolitics:and issit possible to change 1's fate ?
You could reborn get out of the six realms of rebirth, but it will not be easy because only Buddha will be totally out of this cycle of rebirth. But by personal cultivation, like meditation, chanting, reading up sutras, you will reborned into the 3 good realms (Ashura, God and Human). Of course, this is theory in simplicity because it depends on your karma too. Upholding 5 precepts is only the basic, which will keep you out of trouble, but if you read up on this 5 precepts, you'll find that its alot more complicated that you thought because certain things you thought you could do, but it'll gain bad karma. Going vegetarian is good, but if you find it difficult, you could do it slowly, like having one vegetarian meal a day. Vegetarianism will not only improve your health, it will also cultivate the compassion within you.Originally posted by Taiwanpolitics:i want to escape from the six realms of rebirth at all costs .

You must learn and understand the dharma and then practise it in everyday life. It takes practise, it is not very hard and is in fact very liberating. One will find bliss through Buddhist practise.Originally posted by An Eternal Now:5 Precepts and 10 Virtuous deeds, as I mentioned earlier, is only a means of accumulating good karma and also to prevent accumulating any bad karma but it does not lead to enlightenment. It is very important, it is a good practise, but it will not lead you to liberation.
Buddhism is different from any other religion because it emphasizes that we must purify our minds. Our mind is the source of all good, all bad, all thoughts, all afflictions, all sufferings and so on. We must treat the problem at the root. We must eliminate the root of suffering before we can find the unconditional and eternal Bliss of Nirvana in our lives. Buddhism is a culture of bliss, as it is the way of living in perfect bliss in the midst of Life through the cultivation of dharma. The Buddhist practise of mindful awareness allows us to watch our every arising thought, and not become misled by these thoughts into further samsaric cycles. Since you have read many 'Buddhism, Dalai Lama and Zen' books, I think you should have a rough idea of what I am talking about.
Through doing more good deeds and also sincere repentance.Originally posted by Taiwanpolitics:and issit possible to change 1's fate ?

Karma means action, or cause and effect caused by action...
And anyway nobody, even 'gods', can escape the law of karma.
It's just wording mistakes by Taiwanpolitics, I'm sure he knows the difference, and I have corrected him.Originally posted by Kenashi:u guys like to think that karma = fate
fate = act of god
so karma = act of god![]()
