Funny SAF rules and Regulations

do your unit have any funny rules and regulations?
SAF have 1 regulation saying that seviceman are not allowed to carry backbags, those carried over both shoulders, while in uniform. only sling bag is allowed.
is it becos if we carry backpack, our name tag will be covered where-else a sling bag won't. -
i dont think that is an SAF regulation - you prob wont find it in the GOM. it is more likely to be a camp regulation or perhaps a dress code guideline that has been interpreted as such. anyway i have seen alot of servicemen carry backpacks - in no. 3 or 4. just come to pasir ris mrt early in the morning or during sunday evenings to see for yourself.Originally posted by Gordonator:do your unit have any funny rules and regulations?

ya i know it's not a law that every serviceman must follow, cos from what i see, only trainees are recommended not to carry civilian backpacks.
cos got 1 time the army RSM come my camp, he saw many of us carrying backpacks snd raise up the question... -
here's another regulation i heard. high ranking officers like MAJ and above are not allowed to take public transports in uniform.
if they want to, they must either take off their rank or wear a jacket. -

I was from OETI.We could actually change into civilian if we wanted, just do so after last parade.

i guess it isn't a hard and fast rule lah. just that it's really an image issue.
so far i have yet to see MAJ on public transport.. but seen CPTs.
i do not think it bears very well on to the MAJs themselves by taking public transport. -

Used to have a couple of quite unusual psuedo-SOPs when I was active:
1. Can only wear one ring (maximum) on both hands when in a No 4.
2. Watches cannot be metaled- or even leather-strapped. That left basically plastic, Casio-type stopwatches for us, & even then the order came down that they must be appropriately "camouflaged", i.e. dark-colored even on the clock face. -

i also saw MAJs wearing their no.3 in shopping centres and MRT before, quite a strange sight to see them with their rank and militry badges in the civilian world.

My guess is that they come from TAB for lunch/dinner breaks.
The highest ranking one i saw was COL.
O yah, not to mention, i once saw a RSAF 2LTA carrying a CERIMONIAL SWORD and his no.1 in a TRANSPARENT coat hanger walking around there too.

i heard sispec also like tt... -
for BMTC i understand. cos i hav a RP friend there. the guard house there got 1 whole team of RP on standby duty. if anything happens, the RPs will draw their SAR21 and rounds.
the reason for not issuing rounds to recruits is maybe they scare they might lose the rounds, u know right, recruits are so blur...

another situation is that..recruit lose the rounds..and lets say..
the robbers from m'sia who infiltrated tekong..
they found a 5 SAR-21 lost by recruits..
and some live "rounds"
Then the gurkhas and guards will suffer casualties..
then will be whose fault?
